So this is my third night of being smokefree...

So this is my third night of being smokefree...

Postby BluTack » Fri Jul 02, 2010 12:39 pm

And I've had eleven cigarettes.

I laugh at myself for saying that I'm smokefree and still smoking this amount.

And granted, this has largely been because of government subsidised nicotine products. ($6.00 for two moths worth of patches of cigarettes and gum, ka da ching!)

But hey, at least I'm not angry, which I promised I wouldn't do when I quit.

And, you know, fuck you, haha, I've been smoking since I was thirteen. On Monday I hope to not smoke at all. Fingers crossed.

Hey, atleast youre trying. Its better if you dont just STOP. Do it slow. Tomorrow, only smoke 8 or 9 cigs. The next day smoke only 7. And so on.

You'll be fine.

For some reason nicotine is one of those drugs I could just never get hooked on. For like 10 years i've been an occasional smoker. (usually when im on lots of painkillers) Some nights ill smoke 30+ cigs in less than 5 hours. Then I won't touch them for weeks. Then I might do it again later on for a few days. SO, I got no advice on quitting that stuff. I just stop. I never understood why people have trouble with it. The withdrawls symptoms (if any) are extremly mild. And i've never experienced any.

There was one point in my life where I smoked daily for over a year. Then I just quit. cold turkey, I just said why am I even doing this, they don't really make me feel good. So I just stopped and never even thought about it.

Quit slow, quit fast, get hypnotized, chew gum, stick a patch, everybody is different in quitting, the most important thing is you have to want to, and so far nothing works for me except feeling sick. That makes me stop. But when I feel better I start again...

I don't even fucking quit when I'm hacking out a lung. I want to quit, I'm down to half a pack a day- but damn, I wish I never started.

If I could quit smoking cigarettes, I could smoke more weed, and this fact makes me sad.

Good luck! Maybe you should switch to joints.

Sucks for you guys, never lit a cig in my life, don't plan on it, and got no probs! I will on occaision smoke hookah when I'm out or at a friends. I'm not even sure if that's anything like cigs tho or as addicting, cuz its certainly not with me of course.

As someone who is severely allergic to tobacco, I've never had a cigarette in my life, either. The upside is that I'll probably live longer, but the downside is not being able to go anywhere where there's a lot of smoking going on. Anti-smoking ordinances have helped a lot, but I've missed out on some good bands at basement shows, simply because I'd asphyxiate and have to go to the hospital if I stayed for more than fifteen minutes.
Either way, I think I'm better off.

My fiancee has really negative reactions to cigarette smoke. It always comes close to ruining what would otherwise be nice events like outdoor shows, going for a walk in Boston, even seeing the fireworks this past 4th of July! She also can't set foot inside of my parents' house. I really wish people would have the sense not to light up in a crowded area.

Well, anyways, good luck to those trying to quit!

Does she wave her hands in the air and fake cough?

She does wave her hands in the air, but she real coughs. I real cough too sometimes. I tend to just not be able to form sentences if I try to speak. For example, I'll be like "how ... are ... you?" It's weird, if there is smoke in the air, I'll open my mouth and just...no words. Very strange.

I'm sort of allergic myself, I remember when I was younger and had bad asthma, I couldn't be around cig smokers. Now I'm generally fine, but I just don't gamble anything because what if?

There's a Bill Hicks bit about exactly just that. It's the very start of "Dangerous" (not to be confused with the Michael Jackson album that came out around the same time) that goes something to the effect of "The fact that we live in a world where John Lennon was murdered, yet Barry Manilow continues to make fucking albums...."

Here's his pitch for his BillyRay Cyrus themed TV show:

"Each week we set the Hounds of Hell loose and we chase that jarhead-no-talent-cracker-asshole all over the globe till I finally catch that fruity little pony tail of his in the back, pull him to his knees, put a shotgun in his mouth like a big black cock of death. **KUUUUGGHH** And we'll be back in '95 with 'Let's Hunt & Kill Michael Bolton.' **applause** Thank you very much. I am just trying to rid the world of all those fevered egos that are tainting our collective unconscious and making us pay a higher psychic price than we imagine. In fact, that's how I pitched it to the networks..."

Now. That. Is. Fucking. Comedy.

The Jay-Leno-Blood-Spinkler-Dorito-Satan-Sodomy bit wasn't bad, either. And that just reminded me of the Limbaugh bit, too.

Back on topic, I had 2 packs over the weekend at the beachfront condos we rent every July last weekend, and I smoked a fuckload last night, too. My mouth feels like it's been swabbed with cotton and alcohol. Awesome.
