I love how it took so long, and so much work for people to realize that "climate-gate" was non-existant from the start.

Have they realized yet, or are they still grasping at straws? I posted stuff that debunked it months ago, will it matter now that a government investigation found no wrong doings, or maybe they just got paid off. That is the brilliance of conspiracy theories, they are like a religion and you can't disprove it, you simply add another stipulation to keep it going.

To be fair, the debunking started about five minutes after the allegations, but now that is official and public record, I figured it was worth stating.

The fact that it's been debunked does not matter, climate change deniers have "their facts" and we have "ours." Once again, and I am beating a dead horse here, you cannot argue these people out of their position with empirical evidence.

This Acadian climate change denier (who is also a climatologist) went to a climatology lecture at the University of Victoria (That's in Canada, you blingwhads) and thought he was in a room of people just like him. And he got his ass handed to him.

Like I've said, just a bunch of losers that want to try and have a grasp of power by threatening the world with a distorted sense of armageddon. They were called out in the past with proof, and nature did a great job this year of proving them wrong also.

Sorry I chose not to fall for some liberal fear propaganda.

I'm going to hold onto this quote for the next time we discuss evolution.

Nevertheless, Haroon, can you point out this, 'proof" which is apparently so damning to the consensus opinion of the vast majority of research scientists working in the field? I don't want to hear your paraphrased response, I want a link.

Also, how did nature prove climate change wrong? This isn't about that fucking snow storm in DC, is it? You know, up here in Massachusetts, we've had several instances in the past month of completely unseasonable warmth, up to twenty degrees (or more) above average. Still, nobody is running around screaming, "See, it's true! Global warming is real!" because of it. Irregular weather does not confirm or deny climate change.

Wow, wasn't it your camp that was the first to use weather patterns as proof of global warming? It's YOUR camp who consistently talks about record breaking heat at proof, and when the anti-Global Warming camp uses the same weather pattern proof, suddenly it's "not a valid argument." Cut me a break

Hrm, despite the record cold weather that sprung this debate; January was still the hottest January on record. You're not looking at the bigger picture, Haroon. You've covered the sun with your finger to pretend it is not there.

THE GLOBAL TEMPERATURE BROKE JANUARY RECORDS DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WAS COLD IN FLORIDA!!!!

Why is this so god damn hard for you to grasp? Record colds reported in Florida and along the east coast yet it still didn't sway the numbers on the rising temperature. Let me guess, you don't believe these numbers were included in the global temperature average, right? Even by your own logic what you are saying doesn't add up.

It's like you've got a boiling pot of water and someone has thrown in an ice cube; the average temperature is 99.99999999999C but you're too caught up on the fact that what's left of that ice cube is still at zero.

Fact: Florida had record colds in January
Fact: The planet as a whole had a record high

Natural changing in the climate patterns in this world. You people always say most Americans are mindless idiots who believe whatever, and sacrifice their rights to political parties/gov (esp the Republicans) in a fear factor campaign. Yet hilariously enough, you all do the same thing with the liberal camp. It's no different than using terrorism as an excuse for a fear factor.

The science behind the earth getting warmer, caused by humans or not, can be left for someone else to debate with you, I'm simply pointing out that the logic behind the creation of this thread is complete bullshit.

People are still bitching about science which is beyond the basic knowledge set of most people?

Come on. The malaria belt will probably expand and land, which we've been fighting wars over for ages, will go under the sea.

The only reason science is useful is if it can find us a way out of this pickle, which rests on the argument that change in climate is because of people. Unless scientists are trying to find us ways to adapt. Like by turning us into mermaids.

It also relies on an absolute belief in science. Science can save the world.

I'm not willing to make that kind of investment.

When peoples homes disappear, will we just let them drown? Will science find them an appropriate place on the moon? Will we build gigantic, indestructable walls around their coast to prevent them from going under? Will scientists genetically modify our brains so we're not afraid of immigrants? Will they reproduce their cities in uninhabited areas, in itself problematic, and give them a kind of home transplant?

I read something a few weeks ago that sums up climate change deniers pretty well. You've got two people standing on top of a skyscraper. One person says "If we jump off without a parachute or anything, we will go splat and die at the bottom," and the climate-change denier is like the person that says, "You don't know that for sure!! We haven't done it so you can't prooooove it!" In essense, the climate-change denier does have a point, but it's such a ridiculous point that it renders all practicality and pragmatism meaningless.

Analogies are the worst form of argument and only work if the other party accepts the premise that the two are actually similar, but thats a good analogy to explain it to the choir for the climate-change accepters.

Whole or in part I think there really is no argument that we effect our ecosystem, be it climate, pollution, etc.
The question really comes down to how are we going to make a positive impact instead of one that is harmful...

Oh, goodness no! All language is metaphorical and is therefore subject to analogy. Analogies are very good at making a comparison for someone who might not think in this way otherwise. You are completely right about making bad analogies, but good ones are essential for a good argument.
